From 1995 to 2005 I spent a lot of time on an sail yacht in the mediterranean sea. I had to administrate Unix-servers for my customers in Zürich (Switzerland).

With a PCMCIA-Modem at 9600Baud and a Laptop, it was possible to remotely log in to these machines or even to my own server to read my emails, news or chat with coworkers. Later, some harbours offered WiFi technology or even an Internet café and thus a wider range of possible alternatives for sailors.
From this time on I knew, working does not only mean being physically present from monday to friday, from nine to five. But doing things differently does not mean to chill on the deck on a sunbed with the laptop on the knees and a beer in the hand
